Company environmental policy
Ferrari® anticipates (1) the most stringent regulation requirements for its significant impacts and makes a rule of only the best safety and environmental pracices.
The company was therefore awarded its first ISO 14001 certification in 2003, and Oeko-Tex labels for most of its sensitive fabrics and is committed to the HEQ® (High Environmental Quality) building applications code.
Based on lifecycle analyses performed and monitored by accredited bodies, new products are eco-designed for optimum usage of resources,encouraging safety, minimum environmental impacts and integration of renewable raw materials.
Initiatives, innovation
Ferrari® has opted to found its development on the following strongly environmental initiatives: > building of final application durability strategies, in conjunction with its customers and consultants, based on three main lines: Light weight - Sustainability - Recyclability,
> development of the Texyloop® (http://www.texyloop.com) unique manufacturing technology, allowing 100% of fabric components to be recycled and the first European used fabric collection network to be set up. This program alone represents an investment of 6 million euros supported by Ferrari®.
> creation of a website dedicated to car sharing. Yet another opportunity for each Ferrari® collaborator to contribute directly to reducing the ecological footprint of our activities.
Co-operation, interdependence
Ferrari® cooperates in many fields in order to share as widely as possible its environmental protection commitment. These are include:
> emergence of fabric reuse and reutilisation operations in second applications (Freitag®, Reversible®, etc) prior to recycling. This initiative has enable Ferrari® to be an active contributor in Planet Attitude, WWF summer university workshops 2007 and at the Planète Durable (Sustainable Planet) 2008 trade fair,
> access to relevant, useful information for all those concerned in order to improve cooperation in safety and environmental fields. Ferrari® is a Corporate Funding Partner of Greenfacts(2) (http://www.greenfacts.org/) since its founding. In particular, this approach enables Ferrari to clarify real health and environmental issues,
> two close, sustainable co-operations in emerging countries: Zebu Overseas Board (3) in Madagascar (cradle of Ferrari's effigy) and Pronatura International (4) in Africa for developing the Charbon Vert programme.
1) - Ferrari® production sites were equipped with atmospheric emission treatment systems seven years before the required date! 2) - Greenfacts (www.greenfacts.org/) is an independent, non-profit-making organisation set up to provide laymen with exhaustive scientific information on main environmental or health issues. It involves multiple parties, whose impartiality is recognised by the highest European authorities. 3) - Z.O.B sets up an original financing system, in which the investor is in contact with the user of the funds invested. Each newly retired Ferrari employee is given a Zebu holding, is placed in contact with the organisation and is invited to go to Madagascar to contribute to the organisation's actions. 4) - Pro-Natura (www.pronatura.org) is mobilising to assist in solving social, economic and environmental problems, which afflict rural communities in developing countries. The aim is to offer viable economic alternatives to populations, who find is difficult to live in a deteriorating environment.
